Structure and Content: Students are split into two age groups: 8 - 11 (Years 4 - 6) and 11 - 14 (Years 7 - 9). Each week, we start with a whole-company warm-up before splitting into these groups for the rest of the session. We place a greater emphasis on drama overall, with singing and dance content taking place in the context of musical theatre. For singing, this means less sit-down-and-concentrate time and more up-and-about work on staged songs. For dance, it means learning primarily through choreography and staging, applied to musical theatre songs. We also have our ‘solo platforms’ time, which is a low-pressure opportunity for students who would like to share solo or duo work with their peers. Each group takes part in the following sessions as part of our standard weekly timetable: • Physical and Vocal Warm-up (both groups combined) • Musical Theatre – Movement Focus (“MT Movement”) • Musical Theatre – Singing Focus (“MT Singing”) • Drama 1 • Drama 2 Annual Showcase: We typically present a showcase-style variety performance in May each year, using a local theatre venue and featuring a range of items from each group, as well as some solo and duo opportunities. We usually begin preparations around halfway through the autumn term, giving students plenty of time to develop and rehearse the material while keeping the process manageable alongside our regular weekly sessions. Attendance: Please do your best to prioritise regular attendance and punctuality. We completely understand that weekends can be subject to challenging diary juggling and that, from time to time, your child may not be able to attend or may need to be collected early. At the same time, you’ll understand that if absences become frequent across the group, it can make it difficult for us to rehearse effectively and for the children to build on what they’ve learned from week to week. So, we simply ask that you keep us informed when your child can’t attend, and do your best to help them attend each week. Regular attendance makes a real difference to their experience, and to the experience of the whole group.
